Roxbury Community College Informs GED Participants About Upcoming Changes
BOSTON, MA, April 28, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Roxbury Community College is informing current GED test takers that they may want to take or finish the exam before the new GED guidelines go into effect. In January 2014, the new GED assessment will be launched in all U.S. jurisdictions. GED candidates, who currently have passed only portions of the test and don't complete the remaining tests by next January, will lose their scores and have to re-start from the beginning. The new test will be more challenging and costly, increasing from $65 to $120.
The new GED test will continue to measure high school equivalency and include reading comprehension, writing, editing, science, social studies and math. It will now include four, not five, modules: Reasoning through Language Arts, Mathematical Reasoning, Science and Social Studies. There will be two performance levels assessed: a high school equivalency level and a higher level intending to demonstrate college and career readiness. The biggest change of all however, is that the new GED is computer-based.
Roxbury Community College is seeing an increase in the number of test takers probably in part due to the impending changes. Jim Harris, from Training Resources of America in Quincy, MA sends students to RCC to take the exams. Harris says there have been more people coming in and enrolling for the GED and as it fills up they recommend completing it before the changes go into effect. Jim drives his students to RCC, "I have sent 75-100 students to RCC. Danielle and Joyce have been the best. It has been a great experience and I couldn't speak more highly". RCC plans to offer as many exam sessions as possible in the summer and fall, since so many people are trying to finish their GED before the closeout.

Central Louisiana Technical Community College and Upper Iowa University sign partnership to help students continue college education
Administrators sign an articulation agreement between Central Louisiana Technical Community College (CLTCC) and Upper Iowa University (UIU) to help CLTCC students more easily complete bachelor's degrees. ALEXANDRIA, La. (June 13, 2013) -- Central Louisiana Technical Community College, Alexandria, and Upper Iowa University, which has its primary campus in Fayette, Iowa, have affirmed a partnership to provide a course-by-course articulation agreement that allows for a seamless transfer process for learners at CLTCC who want to further their education through Upper Iowa University.
Upper Iowa University has a location for teaching courses at the Learning Center for Rapides Parish in Alexandria.
"We consider UIU to be a great option for a four-year university in the Alexandria area, and this partnership further solidifies our commitment to the Rapides Parish and to CLTCC students," said Wayne Converse, director of military affairs and business development at Upper Iowa University. "This partnership is not only important for the two institutions but, more importantly, for our students."
"Our goal is to help all students access an affordable degree program at Upper Iowa University," said UIU President William R. Duffy II, Ed.D, Ed. S. "We are committed to partnerships like this to help us serve the educational needs of students. We look forward to working closely with students from CLTCC."

ZipCars Provide LMU Community with Transportation Alternative
No car? No problem, as more and more LMU students are finding out.
From the cost of gas to the growing desire for sustainability, more students have discovered that bringing their own car to campus isn’t the best choice for them. That’s where ZipCar, a car-sharing service available at LMU, comes into play.
“College students do not necessarily need access to a car all of the time,” said Carolyn French, assistant director of Campus Recreation at LMU and coordinator of the ZipCar program. “ZipCar allows them to have one when they need it.”
The service is simple. Eligible students (at least 18 years old with a clean driving record for at least a year) can go online to sign up and reserve one of the eight available cars on campus for any day of the week, any time of day. ZipCar charges hourly or daily rates.
The program provides various benefits. Users don’t have to pay for LMU campus parking, or for gas, insurance or maintenance, since ZipCar covers those costs. There’s also no search for somewhere to park, because there are reserved spaces near Rosecrans Hall.
“The number one benefit of the ZipCar program is its flexibility, in that the students have the freedom to go wherever they want, whenever they want for a pretty minimal fee,” French said. “Students can leave campus at their leisure without the large expense and hassle that comes from bringing their own car.”
Zach Soliz, a sophomore business major from Dallas, takes advantage of the ZipCar service instead of bringing a car from home. As a full-time student who lives on campus, he figured he didn’t need a car that often. But as an aspiring actor, Soliz uses ZipCar when he needs to drive to and from auditions around Los Angeles.
“ZipCar was perfect for me,” Soliz said. “I was able to reserve a ZipCar with no problems, whether it was for an audition or to explore the city.”
The program isn’t just for students, though. Anyone in the area who is a ZipCar member can use the cars at LMU just like any other available ZipCar.
