In 2013, construction of around 270,400 apartments was approved in Germany. The German Federal Statistical Office also reported that the figure was 12.9 per cent or just short of 30,900 apartments more than in 2012. In other words, the positive trend that commenced in 2010 has continued. Of the apartments that received building approval in 2013, close to 235,500 were new-build flats in residential blocks (up 11.5 per cent on 2012). However, the increase in approvals for apartments in multi-unit dwellings (up 22.3 per cent) far outpaced the rise in approvals for apartments in semi-detached houses (up 13.3 per cent). Planning permission for detached homes only edged up slightly, namely by 1.1 per cent.
