Germans are increasingly surfing the mobile Internet. This trend was the main driver sending the number of mobile communications subscribers up to about 115 million in Germany in 2013. This was announced by Bundesnetzagentur, which monitors competition in the fields of gas, electricity, post, rail and telecommunications.

The fact that the number of cell-phone subscribers is well above that of inhabitants can be explained by the fact that each German on average owns 1.4 SIM cards, explains Jochen Homann, President of Bundesnetzagentur, the German Federal Network Agency for Electricity, Gas, Telecommunications, Post and Railway. “The use of so-called Smartphones and tablets leads to a rising number of subscribers.” Last year, the figure was 113 million.
