The Tierpark Hellabrunn zoo is home to two 14-week-old polar bears. The cubs have now been presented to the public for the first time (photo) – and have really taken the international limelight as infant mortality among polar bears born in captivity is normally very high. The cubs spent the first 14 weeks of their lives with their mother Giovanna in the zoo’s “mother-and-infant” facility. The twins’ father, 14-year-old Yoghi, is living temporarily (probably until autumn 2014) in the Wilhelma zoo in Stuttgart, where he is keeping female polar bear Corinna company. Yoghi poses a threat for the cubs, as his could view his own offspring as potential prey and eat them.
