English Preparatory Programme (6 - 12 months)

english preparatory, study in europe, universities of HollandDo you want to study abroad in English at one of universities in Europe? Come to study in Holland at the NHTV Breda University.

In order to enter a university in Holland a non - native speakers need to prove their proficiency in English by a TOEFL or IELTS test score. The results of IELTS score 6 ( or TOEFL 79) is a legal prerequisite for the enrolment of students from outside Europe into Dutch international Bachelor’s programmes.

The  NHTV Breda University offers English Language Preparatory Course, which is jointly organised by NHTV Breda and Avans University of Applied Sciences.

The preparatory course aims to prepare students for studying in English. This English course  helps to reach the high level of mastering English required for studying at NHTV Breda University of Applied sciences.

Besides upgrading your level of English this prep course also forms an introduction to our Bachelor’s programme. The course helps students sufficient knowledge about the Dutch culture, specific domain knowledge and ICT. The preparatory programme enables the smooth entry into 4-year Bachelor’s programmes.

Duration of course

Depending on your level of English language proficiency, we offer ol for a full-year or a half-year preparatory course.

English Language Preparatory Course covers: 

English, with English language lessons preparing you for an overall band score 6.0 of the Academic Module of the IELTS exam;

Domain-specific knowledge, such as an introduction to the Bachelor’s programme;An introduction to Western European and Dutch culture;Study skills: familiarisation with our educational system and working methods;Field work activities, excursions and self-study periods.After graduation of the preparatory programmes the students expected to pass the IELTS exam with an overall band score of at least 6 at the end of the prep course.

Moreover, after completing the course you will be well prepared to enrol in and successfully follow our Bachelor’s programmes.

This prep course ends with an official Academic IELTS exam. On successful completion of the programme you will receive a certificate issued by NHTV Breda University of Applied Sciences, together with an official IELTS certificate.

Preparatory programmes (18 or 36 weeks)

The English Language Course is designed to provide students with the required English language capabilities (6.0 academic IELTS) in order to undertake BA and MA degree programmes at Stenden university or at other universities and colleges.

Stenden University, programmesThe English Language Course provides you with the necessary language skills to operate effectively in the Netherlands and in Europe. All graduates of the English Language Course will receive an unconditional Letter of Acceptance that allows you to enroll in the regular BA and/or MA programmes of Stenden University.

Stenden University is the official Cambridge examination center for the North of the Netherlands. A certificate of ability in the English language from Cambridge is your globally recognized qualification in the language.

The English Language Course enables

Raise the level of your English to an academic IELTS 6.0;Improve your English and personal communication skills;Gain information about the European culture and Dutch language, culture and customs in particular;Increase your awareness of cross cultural differences;Socialise you in the Stenden university environment;Familiarise you with the chosen management sector and the education method of Problem Based Learning (PBL); Receive a certificate that grants you access to BA abd MA programmes at Stenden university.

The English Language Course runs for one semester (18 weeks) or two semesters (36 weeks) and consists of intensive classroom study. The programme contains different instruction forms such as lectures, workshops, PBL, meetings, practical training and language labs.

Students are also expected to spend considerable time on selfstudy activities. Assessment takes place in different forms, including written and oral testing and project assignments that culminate in an IELTS test.

Preparatory Short Track Programme

Spend exciting summer holidays in Holland and brush up your English! Saxion University offers an intensive 6-week English course during the summer months of July and August to prepare prospective students for their degree courses.

Preparatory Short Track Programme is a short intensive English course, designed for international students who would like to apply for a Bachelor or Master programme at Saxion University, but need to improve their English language skills in order to be admitted to the course of their choice.

The aim of the programme is to help prospective students to improve their English language proficiency to the level required for four-year Bachelor programmes, Final Year Bachelor courses and Master programmes.

Preparatory Short Track course offers:

An intensive 120-hour English course in July and August. General improvement of the four skills, including IELTS preparation. 120 hours of supervised self-study and development of learner autonomy. ?pportunity to take an IELTS test at the end of the course to prove your level of English. 

Apart from improving their English proficiency, there are other benefits students may derive from taking part in the Preparatory course. Students of different cultural backgrounds will have an opportunity to experience studying and teaching methods used at Saxion. Preparation for more active and interactive study methods will lead to a better chance of academic success afterwards. Moreover, taking part in the Preparatory Programme, students have some time to adapt to the Dutch culture and life in the Netherlands before they start their academic course.

IELTS score 5.5 (with the minimum of 5.0 for Listening and Speaking); Prospective students are required to apply for their future degree course at Saxion University at the same time they seek entry to the Preparatory courses.

The Preparatory Short Track Programme will start in July 2012. The course fee is € 2900. The total cost of the programme, including the accommodation expenses, visa and residence permit fees and insurance costs amounts to € 4480
